Why Summer Camp Is Great for Kids

For students and families, this is the busiest period of the school year. Parents are working hard to make sure that their children keep up with their homework, while stressed children are struggling to complete all their projects and keep up with the information they need to study. At the same time, there are chores to complete, sports practices to attend, extracurricular activities, and more.

Additionally, spring is around the corner. Parents want to make sure their kids get outside and enjoy the beauty that surrounds Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, and anywhere around the Front Range. While you want to go enjoy the Rockies, you and your family may feel stuck inside through one of the prettiest times of the year.

With the end of the school year in sight, you want to make sure your kids have opportunities to get outdoors. Summer camp is the answer to ensure that your children have an adventurous experience in nature this year.

Kids who spend a week at an overnight camp have the opportunity to disconnect from technology, spend time in nature, form lifetime connections, gain confidence, and achieve greater independence. In this article, we are talking about why summer camp is great for all kids.

Five Reasons Camp Is Great for Every Child

1) Kids Take a Break from Screens at Summer Camp

As our culture becomes increasingly reliant on technology, we can see the detrimental effects that too much screen time has on children. Their physical, mental, and social health are all deteriorating.

As our culture becomes increasingly reliant on technology, we can see the detrimental effects that too much screen time has on children. Their physical, mental, and social health are all deteriorating.

Of course, technology has its advantages. Students were able to continue their studies through virtual means during the pandemic. Simultaneously, the usage of screens in the classroom emphasizes the need for children to spend more time outside.

Phones, laptops, and tablets are not permitted at camp. Kids can build true connections with their friends without these distractions, which is part of what makes camp relationships so meaningful. For kids, spending time outdoors is essential. Time spent outside keeps children active and has been demonstrated to reduce stress

2) Kids Get to Try New Things

If your child enjoys meeting new people and experiencing new things, summer camp would be a great fit for them. Every day, campers get to participate in activities they have never done before. Campers gain confidence as they learn and master new abilities.

When your child attends summer camp, prepare to hear hours of stories when they return home.

3) Kids Develop New Skills

In addition to non-stop fun and adventure, kids who attend summer camp are introduced to new skills that will benefit them for a lifetime. Some of the skills they will learn at High Peak Camp include:

  • Hiking practices and trail navigation
  • Through ropes courses, students will have a greater understanding of climbing and build better balance
  • Kids get to learn more about fishing
  • Students will learn about camping, wildlife safety, and the outdoors
  • Kids get to learn how to work with a team
  • Children learn about God, Creation, nature, and how to leave the outdoors better than they find it

4) Kids Get a Sense of Independence

Spending a week at camp gives your child a sense of independence beyond what they experience at school or at home.

While supportive counselors are always present, they are also in charge of a number of other kids. Counselors direct campers in the appropriate direction while still allowing them some autonomy. The importance of this opportunity cannot be overstated.

Of course, safety is a priority at High Peak Camp. Our safety standards are designed to meet or exceed the requirements of the American Camp Association and the State of Colorado Child Licensure Department, with the underlying desire to treat each camper as if they were our own.

5) Kids Connect with God

At High Peak Camp, our purpose is to serve each camper and person that comes to our camp physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually. The aim of the camping experience is to foster within each individual a deeper understanding of our relationship to God and our fellow human beings; to gain an appreciation and respect for God's creation.
