Why High Peak Camp?

High Peak Camp is a Christian camp in Colorado operated by The Salvation Army Intermountain Division. High Peak is a member of the American Camp Association and Christian Camping and Conference Association; therefore, the facility and program are run to the standards set by these accrediting bodies.

High Peak is located just a few minutes outside of downtown Estes Park and sits adjacent to Rocky Mountain National Park. Its location is perfect because the camp maintains a rustic feel without being far from restaurants and shops. At the same time, its proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park is ideal for those who love the outdoors and want to spend time enjoying the beauty of God’s creation.

High Peak Camp is licensed by the state of Colorado as a resident youth camp. Summer campers range in age from 7 to 16. Summer camp sessions vary in program theme, but all are foundationally Christian. Throughout the year, High Peak Camp functions as a retreat center and is available for groups to rent.

The mission of High Peak Camp is: “To use nature and the great outdoors as a setting to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, teach environmental awareness, encourage prosocial behavior and safely provide an opportunity to every camper for fun and adventure.”

High Peak Camp Is Perfect for Your Camper or Retreat Group

The overall purpose of High Peak Camp is to serve the total person physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually.

The aim of the camping experience is to foster within each individual a deeper understanding of our relationship to God and our fellow human beings; gain an appreciation and respect for God's creation and humanity's responsibility for proper stewardship; develop within each person a healthy sense of self-respect and individual dignity.

All of this is accomplished through an outdoor environment of creative experiences in a group living situation with an emphasis on positive Christian values.

Summer Camp

The Salvation Army is committed to impacting the lives of young people. Each summer, High Peak Camp hosts children and teens from all walks of life to participate in our summer camp programs.

High Peak campers will have a blast, become more independent, learn how to work with a team, make lifelong friends, gain self-confidence, grow in their faith, have excellent role models and mentors in their counselors, and develop leadership skills throughout their time at camp. At camp, a variety of activities are offered to fit with each child’s interests, including the following:

  • Challenge activities- climbing wall, low ropes course, and zipline
  • Outdoor adventures- fishing, hiking, and survival skills
  • Athletics- frisbee golf, mini golf, sand volleyball, basketball, and soccer
  • Target sports- bb guns and archery
  • Arts and crafts
  • Campfire- songs, skits, stories, and devotions
  • Theme nights- movie nights, game show nights, etc.
  • Camp-wide activities

S.A.L.T. Program

The S.A.L.T. Program is a discipleship and mentoring program created to help strengthen the spiritual walks and leadership abilities of the teens in our corps. It  is a volunteer program for Christ-following teens ages 14-15. The program exposes participants to as many day camp and youth ministry responsibilities as possible, all under the supervision of our Corps Program staff.

S.A.L.T. program participants will have the opportunity to volunteer for six weeks, helping with Vacation Bible Schools and other summer programs at their home corps.

High Peak prides ourselves in providing excellent customer service to all guests utilizing our facilities. We offer older, more rustic facilities, as well as those which have been recently built or renovated. Our various lodges and group meeting spaces allow us to host groups both large and small.

Many of our activities are also available to retreat and rental groups, such as our zip line, mini golf course, athletic facilities, climbing tower, and on-site hiking trails. In addition, we have easy access to nearby Rocky Mountain National Park. During the winter months, guests have access to seasonally appropriate activities, including ice skating and snowshoe rentals.

Outdoor Education

High Peak also boasts an outdoor education program, which spans the three domains of self, others, and the natural world. The emphasis given to each of these three areas can be altered to fit with the needs of your group and based on what you are looking to gain from the experience.

Your group’s program, which is specifically designed to meet your goals, might focus on a combination of the following:

  • Outdoor survival skills
  • Teamwork
  • Problem-solving
  • Development of leadership skills
  • Increasing understanding of natural environments
  • Promotion of spirituality
  • Reducing recidivism
